As a boy, I remember riding in the car with my mom and driving past the wallpaper shop across from the Dairyette in Lone Oak Kentucky. Yes, there was an entire store dedicated to wallpaper! Back in the 1990s, wallpaper was very fashionable. You’ve probably stepped into your aunt’s bathroom before and been shocked with a pink vanity, gold fixtures, and flowered wallpaper bordering the walls. Talk about being transported back in time to 1994!
But that was then...this is now.
Wallpaper has changed in a significant way.
Before you discount wallpaper as an ancient relic, I would encourage you to visit some of the newly built hotels in the Nashville Area. Visit their restaurants, cafes, or restrooms. Notice how they are using "textured" wallpaper in conjunction with different paints.
Some of it may look a little strange, but the majority of the designs are striking.
Textured wallpaper is made of a raised, tactile surface which creates a three-dimensional effect. This can add depth, warmth, and character to a room as opposed to flat, printed wallpaper. The ideal locations for textured wallpapers would be accent walls or formal spaces. Another benefit is that they are more resistant to wear and tear than standard wallpaper options!
Is it required for you to use wallpaper? No! However, if you feel as though your space is lacking something you just can’t put your finger on...then perhaps textured wallpaper could add that “zest” you’ve been looking for!
